The Memorial
A place of remembrance at the heart of Buckie
A bronze sculptural group with flag, raised on a freestone pedestal, the memorial was designed and executed by William Birnie Rhind R.S.A. of Edinburgh and funded by the Memorial to Fallen Heroes Committee.
- 1925Unveiled on 12th April by Lieut. Col. James Dawson, D.S.O., in memory of the sailors and soldiers of Buckie and district who fell in the Great War.
- 1953Renovated with bronze name panels and rededicated on 8th November to include those who fell in the Second World War.
- 1973Moved to its present position in Cluny Square after burgh road works.
The Panels
Names cast in bronze
Every name on the three bronze panels links to a record of that person’s life and service. The fourth panel carries the dedication and the seal of Buckie.
